Looks way better than before...though kinda plain.

Looks wierd like that. Probably looks better on the map at the edges of Rossendale, or towns like Jogdine where you now have nothing byt small buildings.

It's the windows I think, all closed in the same way.

Note the trees INSIDE the building areas now.
If you look closly, you'll see the machine gun bullets striking the ground now make vertical dust puffs.

Looks like a real forest or park...though the bushes need to be speedtreedified now, they stand out.

New speed trees look awesome

They do indeed, look awesome. Much better than I thought they would.
I don't WW2OL's EVER going to get credit for the graphics. Those trees look a lot better than COD2!

Ug..ug ..ugliest fourm avatars in the universe
Avatar follow-up - Battleground Europe Forums
No offense Rafter, but I'm...underwelmed by the choices. I dunno, I think most of the OT ones are childesh, but you'd expect that for OT huh. I'd be embarrsed to see them in the barracks or the other "normal" fourms. But the more normal ones (except the wolf which is nice) are...bland is the best term I can think of. They might as well really show which fourm you post to. I also think the're too big (hint: if you run the fourms without sig files, they take up fully 1/2 of every post).
Give me pictures of in game vechiles, locations, maps, weapons etc. A lot of them. Axis and allied. I would want to see 21 different marks of Spitfire at the very least.

Default Re: HC bashing
(goes here as well, with small edits)
NOTES ON BEING A LEADER:
To ALL: High Commands have n00bs, vets, and vets who are n00bs to certain situations. They screw it up.
To ALL: High Commands are democracy in action - there is NO TYRANT to enforce his will upon you with consistency-in-tyranny. A dynamic game with dynamic population changes will never be consistent, and never be consistent in a way YOU can depend upon. Stop complaining of dystopia and enjoy the utopia of unpredictability. YOU can join the HC and see for yourself. I did it. Its hard but fun.
To ALL: The High Command, when you are good and confident, and when you like to sacrifice and drive the MSP turns out to be the best part of the game. The one good MSP that never dies wins the town. The good MSP driver is OIC, a typer, a map reader, willing cheerleader, and on good terms with other veteran players in the tank, naval and air worlds...they will come to him out of friendship. BE ONE OF THOSE.
Finally: ANYONE can be CinC. Really. Even you. Don't biyatch about 'politics' - that's called getting a group to agree with you. Don't biyatch about time available to lead, because even leading for 1 night a week is enough to get famous.
JOIN the HC...or play your part of the game:
1. Are you a grunt/soldaten? Hold your 25 yards of depot. Biyatch only to your tactical level leader (see Saving Pvt Ryan for instructions on complaints). STAY OFF strategic channels. Look at the map only zoomed to your 25 square yards. You get a huge increase in kills. Often, you'll be the real reason the town was saved or taken.
2. Are you a brigade level tactical leader nco/junior officer? Lead the *tactics* of taking or defending the town or sector, make the grunts love you, and don't get in the strategic debate, pop on and off strategic channels to give information and ask for orders. Keep the map zoomed to your town. Drive the first MSP and keep it at least 1 kilometer back. TYPE TYPE TYPE your orders, TYPE TYPE TYPE the contacts called on TeamSpeak, TYPE TYPE TYPE thank you's and congratulations and great job. Your grunts will remember your attacks and come back to you wherever you are fighting.
3. Are you HC Divisional/Kampfgruppe and above, or acting as such. STAY OUT OF TACTICS. Stay on Strategic channels. Keep *at least* 3 cities zoomed out on your map. Talk to your tactical commanders and give them freedom to perform. Channel hop to spread targets #1, 2, and 3 decided in as large a meeting as you can organize, delegate orders, help coordinate the large forces involved. Praise the tactical leaders BY TYPING IT and keep repeating who they are. RESUPPLY the towns YOURSELF. Be the 2nd MSP at the important battle but let the TACTICAL commander have his channel WITHOUT YOU. Don't be the hero - that's the grunts' job. Your job is to make the grunts' commander able to make the grunts the hero.
High Command? Most Important ADVICE for success: DONT GET OVER-PROMOTED. You good at tactics and don't enjoy strategic map reading?...don't get above the brigade command and keep to Item 2 above.
To ALL: Live in YOUR world. One of the above items. You'll be happy there....or get yer @ss promoted to your level of happiness, and stay out of the levels above or below you.

This part "The High Yo-Yo was invented by a Chinese pilot named Yo-Yo" is not true.
Ordinarily, I wouldn't tell others that, but I fell for it too when I was a wee fake fighter pilot. Mouse (aka Robert Shaw) revealed its falsehood at a Warbirds con in 98 (though that might have been at the party/mass pool dunking at Gunjam's house).
Tailspin rocks! (We used to be squaddies).

Bad EI SMG shooting
I've never been so disappointed with a flaw. - Battleground Europe Forums
Amusing little encounter as a MSP taking aahcel back from a fallback.
EI SMG walks up, unloads 2 clicks into my right side...behind the driver. Thinking I'm dead he goes prone and starts shooting guys who have spawned off me in the back.
Meanwhile I'm screaming to spawn off me. 5 guys get off at once and put the poor bad shot down.
Havn't OiCed a fallvback in ages. Well done, took the bunker by a greentage after 15 minutes, we took the eastern depot (only one they had) 20 seconds later.

So you want to spawn then? Well, you need the the cell host for that, dear. Here's a number. Go over there and try your chances in the spawning queue."
"Will I be expected?"
"Oh, no luv. You're not in his queue so how can he know who you are?"
"Couldn't you, uhm, call ahead?"
"I could, but until you're there, he wouldn't know who I was talking about. Or he'd have to remember."
"I see, so what does this number do?"
"It tells him who you are"
"So this number is connected to me somehow?"
"No, thats just the number you might need when you get to the front of the queue"
"Might? What if its not?"
"Can you fly?"
"Couldn't you just send him a note? Tell him that Mr Jenkins will be the new owner of a certain new Daimler armored car?"
"Oh, we can't have our employees spending time on paperwork. What would the world come to? No. You just head over to the queue, wait your turn, and when you get to the front, take what the nice man gives you. I've made the hand-gestures and avian sacrifice that the strat host needs to try and see that your Char will be there on time"
"But I didn't want a char"
"Sorry, Opel"
"No, I wanted a Daimler"
"Did you? Well this is the wrong queue"
"What? Which queue am I supposed to be in?
"The one marked 'used vehicles'"
"But I don't want a used vehicle"
"This is the 'vehicle' queue, and you've used it now, haven't you?"
"Yes, but isn't normal to name the queue for what it offers rather than the type of people who might stand in it?"
"Have you never been through customs?"
"Look. Are you telling me I have to go queue over there now to get my Daimler?"
"Yes."
"Ok. Thank you."
"Wait. Where are you going?"
"To the used vehicles queue."
"Well before you do you need to sign this."
"What is it?"
"Its the paperwork I have to send to the nice man over in the spawning queue that someone who's used vehicles will be expecting a Daimler. You need to sign all three copies and the duplicates to go to the other servers."

Default Damage event consequences model in WWIIOL:BE
We had a beta tester do a laymans analysis of how the ballistics and damage modeling works in our game engine. Thought you might get a kick out of seeing this.
*** Damage Log File Analysis ***
Caculations of a single 75mm APHE round impact to a Panhard scout car.
I will be showing you a shortened version, because there were 46 pieces of spall generated, over 30 pieces of shrapnel, and nearly 90 concussion damage events. Lets take the first line.
STUG 75mm APHE round hitting panhard right hull door at 714 m/s, Energy = 1730949 joules, thickness 14.00 mm at 7 deg
Stug 75mm aphe is of course the ammunition that was fired.
(Stu.K.L24 Armour Piercing High Explosive in this case)
It hit the right side of the panhard in the crew door. The round was traveling 714 meters per second. It had an energy of 1,730,949 joules. For reference, it takes about 10000 joules to completely blow a track and about 3000 joules to damage the 25mm gun on the panhard.
We have nearly 2 million joules of energy on initial impact.
Thickness, is the thickness of the surface being hit, the panhard door is only 14mm thick. The round hit at 7 degrees to the armor, almost a perfectly straight angle.
STUG 75mm APHE round hitting panhard right hull door at 714 m/s, Energy 1730949 joules, thickness 14.00 mm at 7 deg, STUG 75mm APHE fuse started, timer = 0.0010 seconds.
75mm APHE hits with 120746.653868 joules to right hull door.
STUG 75mm APHE spalling 46 pieces of right hull door.
******** the round has not yet passed through the armor ********
This is just the spall, it shows you what speed and angle its hits objects at and with how much energy. 46 pieces were created. We wont list all 46 pieces, but enough of them for you to see the crew dying.
Spall chunk(0) striking left side of hull of panhard at 803 m/s, Energy 641 joules, thickness 15.00 mm at 57 deg.
Spall chunk hits with 641.438818 joules to left side of hull.
Spall chunk(0) stopped in left side of hull, penetrated 0.00 mm, lost 803 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Notice the speed of 803 meters per second and over 600 joules? This stuff is almost like rifle bullets going off inside.
Spall chunk(1) striking commander's legs at 665 m/s, Energy 106 joules, thickness 1.00 mm at 0 deg
Damage was 105.870682 joules to commander's legs.
Spall chunk(1) stopped in commander's legs 0.00 mm, lost 665 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(2) hits commander's legs at 1001 m/s, Energy 1009 joules, thickness 1.00 mm at 0 deg
Damage was 1008.526877 joules to commander's legs.
Spall chunk(2) stopped in commander's legs 0.01 mm, lost 1001 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(3) Hits the 25mm ammo storage at 1244 m/s, Energy 1287 joules, thickness 3.00 mm at 0 deg
Damage was 1287.401488 joules to 25mm ammo storage.
Spall chunk(3) stopped in 25mm ammo storage(2) 0.01 mm, lost 1244 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(4) hits back of hull at 282 m/s, Energy 38 joules, thickness 15.00 mm at 34 deg
Damage was 37.656510 joules to back of hull.
Spall chunk(4) stopped in back of hull 0.00 mm, lost 282 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(5) Hits bottom of turret at 310 m/s, Energy 81 joules, thickness 14.00 mm at 65 deg
Damage was 80.642116 joules to bottom of turret.
Spall chunk(5) stopped in bottom of turret(2) 0.00 mm, lost 310 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(6) spalls from outside of armor.
Spall chunk(6) strikes the ground at 428 m/s
This is very interesting, the armor actualy spalled on the outside also. This piece hit the ground.
Spall chunk(7) Hits commander's legs at 1412 m/s, Energy 1833 joules, thickness 1.00 mm at 0 deg, t = 3054.615326 s
Damage of 1833.295896 joules to commander's legs. The commander has long since passed death.
Spall chunk(7) stopped in commander's legs 0.01 mm, lost 1412 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(8) Hits commander's torso at 1437 m/s, Energy 1647 joules, thickness 1.20 mm at 0 deg
Damage of 1646.681433 joules to commander's torso. Commander is now unidentifiable organic soup.
Spall chunk(8) stopped in commander's torso(10) 0.01 mm, lost 1437 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(9) Lands in gunner's torso at 1546 m/s, Energy 93 joules, thickness 1.20 mm at 0 deg
Damage of 93.100734 joules to gunner's torso.
Spall chunk(9) stopped in gunner's torso 0.00 mm, lost 1546 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(10) hits bottom of turret at 477 m/s, Energy 6 joules, thickness 14.00 mm at 65 deg
Damage of 6.310749 joules to bottom of turret. This is equivelant of a fly landing on it.
Spall chunk(10) stopped in bottom of turret 0.00 mm, lost 477 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(11) Hits left side of hull at 1030 m/s, Energy 1159 joules, thickness 15.00 mm at 32 deg
Damage applied 1158.589382 joules to left side of hull.
Spall chunk(11) stopped in left side of hull 0.01 mm, lost 1030 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(12) hits bottom of turret at 710 m/s, Energy 32 joules, thickness 14.00 mm at 66 deg
Damage was only 31.843677 joules to bottom of turret.
Spall chunk(12) stopped in bottom of turret 0.00 mm, lost 710 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(13) hit bottom of turret at 471 m/s, Energy 217 joules, thickness 14.00 mm at 70 deg
Damage was minor, 216.815958 joules to bottom of turret.
Spall chunk(13) stopped in bottom of turret 0.00 mm, lost 471 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
We skip down to chunk 36 because there are tons of repeated crew hits and spall hitting the armor.
Spall chunk(36) hits transaxle at 445 m/s, Energy 102 joules, thickness 100.00 mm at 0 deg
Minscule damage of 101.949308 joules to transaxle.
Spall chunk(36) stopped in transaxle 100.00 mm, lost 445 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Spall chunk(38) hits right front fender at 253 m/s, Energy 19484 joules, thickness 7.00 mm at 61 deg
Damage of 19484.321335 joules to right front fender.
Spall chunk(38) stopped in right front fender 0.07 mm, lost 253 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
If this was a living thing it would now be dead.
Since spall chunk 38 is low speed but high joules, this would suggest different mass, that is a very intricate detail.
*** Ok now we actualy penetrate the vehicle with the round itself ***
After 46 pieces of spall have ripped the place up.
STUG 75mm APHE penetrated right hull door 14.00 mm, lost 25 m/s, speed now 688 m/s
14mm is the door thickness, it didnt slow the round down much, it only lost 25 meters per second of speed.
STUG 75mm APHE slamms into commander's legs at 688 m/s, Energy 1610203 joules, thickness 1.00 mm at 0 deg
A traumatic 4398.429960 joules to commander's legs.
STUG 75mm APHE penetrated commander's legs 1.00 mm, lost 1 m/s, speed now 687 m/s
If this was a solid AP round you would see the round keep going through stuff until it was stopped, but since its APHE something cooler is going to happen.
************************************************** *******
Now the APHE explodes!!
************************************************** *******
STUG 75mm APHE detonating, STUG 75mm APHE explodes into 30 pieces of shrapnel
We will skip to some more interesting shrapnel, but they go on ripping crew to pieces just like the spall.
Shrapnel shard(2) Severs gunners legs at 779 m/s, Energy 39361 joules, thickness 1.00 mm at 0 deg, t = 3054.616761 s
Damage was 39360.979559 joules to gunners legs. What legs? They aren't legs anymore. This poor guy needs 5 body bags and a broom. A hose might come in handy.
Shrapnel shard(2) stopped in gunners legs 0.26 mm, lost 779 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Shrapnel shard perferates gunner's torso at 849 m/s, Energy 29655 joules, thickness 1.20 mm at 0 deg
Damage was 29655.306813 joules to gunner's torso.
Shrapnel shard(3) stopped in gunner's torso 0.19 mm, lost 849 m/s, speed now 0 m/s
Lots of repeated crew hits, driver took a near fatal one to his head. Now look at this.
************************************************** ********
CONCUSSIVE DAMAGE!!
************************************************** ********
There were about 90 something concussion events here, below are some of the highlights.
STUG 75mm APHE concussive explosion
Damage of 10.913030 joules to radiator.
Effect of concussion to component antifreeze at 1.5 m from detonation = damage of 14.395833 joules to antifreeze.
Effect of concussion to component driver's head ... energy 29.883825 joules to damage driver's head, threshold 40.000000 joules. The drivers head just survives, but too bad shrapnel already wounded him. He bleeds out, poor guy.
Effect of concussion to component commander's torso.
Damage of 127.093132 joules to commander's torso. Too bad he is already dead.
Effect of concussion to component commanders arms.
Damage of 88.672264 joules to commanders arms.
And of course his arms are now on the floor.
The end result here was commander and gunner laying about in pieces on the panhard floor, the driver bled out from a nasty head wound. We see that APHE does in fact fuse and then detonate inside the armored car. There was alot of spall and shrapnel inside, and every single piece was calculated.
We also learned that there is concussive damage, and it can injure and kill crew if they take a big enough hit from it. All the above data is real game data, retyped to make it humanly readable.
Hopefuly you find this both interesting and helpful when you're out there wondering what the heck is going on. The answer is there's an awful lot going on !
Disclaimer: A Panhard and crew were actualy killed during this testing but no sheep were harmed.

Post subject: A Dinker quote, if you need some motivation
From a thread in which an Axis player asks GHC why they can't try and win using actual tactics, instead of moving both their armies to the same place for attacks, otherwise known as the 18th armee. Dinker, if you didn't now, is a BC time Axis leader (who supposedly unsubbed in protest after CRS restricted AO's in low pop time)
"allies have combined armees far more than axis have the last couple of years
every map its french move up n to help brits push to factories
its a daily push for allies to focus there numbers up there while leaving the mercs to deffend the metz pocket
i have played this game for 5 years and can guarantee the teaming up of armess is far less commen on the axis side when one armee move n or south to push with the other
all you have to do is look at the allied chest thumps on the forums and you can clearly see french commanders up n with brits pushng for the factorys
i could name alot of big time allied french leaders who have map after map focused up north
do yourself a test take a look at top 20 allied commanders look at sorties where they spawning and compare that to top 20 axis commanders and see who out of there natural ao more i bet you would be suprised at what you see
all im saying if allies do it which they do theres no way you can scream at axis doing it as well"
If that doesn't make you want to kick jerry right square in the danglies, I don't know what will Cool
Keep buggering on, lads. S!
And heres the proof of A)dinkers idiocy, B)GHC lies, C)The allies need more teamwork :p

Default Think outside the box
The Map has just been a blast this campaign. Its been awhile since ive seen all this chaos and ive been here awhile.
Some of my favorite sayings this map are.
We dont need a bde ther, they wont capp it.
WTF is HQ doing now.
Dont worry, the navy will recapp it.]
The Muese wher i have spent most of my career at has been most enjoyable. I have also been able to spawn in a few different time zones and i have also found that to be quite intresting. The HQ styles are very different but no less as fun.
The sguad i run in also has had the ability to form up more because of the magtitude of the chaos and to try to stabalize the little things. We have played ARF and Brit because of the river and the front being pushed back and forth.
Kudos for thinking outside the box this map be it intentional or not.

EVE Scares me
EVE Online | Free Trial
I can win on intellegent in Galciv 2. I can probably rembemer the tech tree for Smac. I can co-ordinate, assemble, manager and secure a town in Belgium with 100 attacks and as many defenders on land and air. I can recall most of the rules for meelle combat in D&D 2nd AND 3rd and 3.5 edition. I still know how to make a army list for 40K 1st editon.
And Eve Online is scary. SO many abilies, rules, interaces, and it's all as clear as MUD. From reading the online manuals it appears you need to be a nuclear physictst to work out how to DO anything, and a knowlage or orbitial mechanines at 4th year Universtry to be able to fight in PvP.
It's a great pity because I'd probably love the game. But it's all too damm scary to work out.

CRS can't work miracles. So stop praying for them

But before they do that, Kfsones going to take your ping into the negative, Toto will be givin the job of repainting the Sistene chapel, rickb's going to be hired by NASA to build the software for the shuttles replacement (single handed), Doc's going to get the job to rebuild New Orleans using the terrian editor and Killer's been hired to find Osama Bin Ladin.
What we wish for is not what CRS can do, no matter how many posts we all write here.

Whitstable 2% output - usual BS
Whitstable 2% output - usual BS - Page 2 - Battleground Europe Forums
Why was the game changed to prevent allied ships firing at german factories.
Now, you could (and CRS did) argue that allowing allied destroyers into the canal system of central europe was
non-historical
not game balancing
unfair
hard to prevent occuring by the action of opposing forces
silly
All these arguments can be used that the both the allied navies should not be able to bombard the Rhineland, axis naval units bombard british factories, or the very existance of the factory at Whitstable itself.
The ONLY valid argument that the factory remain in Whitestable is that it would take Doc 2 weeks to move it. Solution: leave the factory there, but don't let it count. Either build a new factory at a new site (I don't know....closer to London perhaps) or make the other british factories account for more production. Call it a shadow factory or something. Or add enough guns to make the factory as defended from attacks like a Rebal Base with an Ion Cannon. But stop the silly naval attacks.

Actually it has worked quite well from a numbers perspective but it is not an end all solution. Next up we'll be looking at adding some passive solutions like rank advancement bonuses on the undermanned side to entice new players to the game to the least numbered side, then we'll bolster that with increased despawn timers for the advantaged side and we'll finish it off with a no-play cap for the extremely advantaged side so that anything above 60-40 would be completely impossible.
