Movie I made
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Made a movie about my squad tell me what you think as this is my first attempt
Right Click and Save
A great movie, better in a lot of respects than the offical rat trailer! Particlaur the scenes of the tank battles.
Only minor concern is it's obviously 1.19 (the sky is grayer), so I can't explicatly use it to show off WW2OL 1.20! :) Please make a movie in 1.20 too :).
I give it 9/10.

WWIIOL/Battlefield Europe...any better? My short 1.20 review
f13.net forums - WWIIOL/Battlefield Europe...any better?
Well that would be me I guess
Feature review here
The poor brits are still stuck with the Crudsader III to fight the IVG and Stug. So...no. We did get the C47 though, so BEF paratroops can get to the front line quicker (the French are still stuck with the Ju52).
HOWEVER, we can now RDP the Churchill. This version has 152mm of front turrent armour and uses the Shermans 75mm ammo. Meaning it's not so good as the Crud III at KILLING enemy tanks (the 6 pounder is better) but it's welll neigh invunrable. It's also slower than a running infantryman.
The French get the M10...which IMHO, sucks. It's got a very good gun...crap armour AND NO ROOF. Trust the US to make a tank vunrable to anything straffing it from the air.
The Germans get....The Tiger. No more need be said really,. you all know what a Tiger's going to be like. However, the Churchill can survive it somewhat, and the M10 can kill it somewhat. An attack with Churchills and M10's would be pretty good (and I've seen Churchills in the beta kiill Tigers at close range while the Tiger couldn't kill the Churchill). However, to kill the Tiger you WILL need to flank it...or sapper it (with it's slow turrent speed this is actulaly realaivly easy...though the M10's is worse).
Bascialy 1.20 was a overhall of the light engine and the UI to find a fight. If you have a new video card you can have bloom and fancy light that makes the game loook better or blurry, depending on your point of view. The sun looks quite nice though and looks as good as the sun in HF2 does I think. Frame rates are about the same as 1.19, but the stuttering is reported as gone with a lot more consistanet level of FPS. My stuttering I to had has gone. There's new speedtreefied grass too, and a couple of new buildings.
Sun effect here
The UI changes are mostly to the map. You can now SEE everyone on your misson ON the map. You can mark enemy locations. The misson commander now actulaly DOES things like mark rally points, attack points, confirm enemy contact reports, have his /orders appear at the top of everyones screen. The misson commander has a new colour for when he types and everyone on your misson gets a different coloured tag too. So the gameplay additon of this is quite good. So the gameplay additon is good, but not as world changing as I thought it might be. However, an orgaizned group of players can now REALLY orngaizne themselves very effecitly.
Best little change was the Opel was nurfed. It's still the fatest ON road truck, but it's now the 2nd slowest OFF road truck. Apperntly there are plans to fix the other trucks, but that hasn't happened yet.
Read me for 1.20 is here
Re-release in Europe is Nov 11 (in england at any rate) so the'll be a lot of green tags around next fortnight. Re-relase for the US market is next year

It was turned off for a reason.
Yes. Sounds like that reason is someone lacks a sense of humor!
Job Offer?
One of the places I attempted to get a job at last year sent me an email asking for an updated ID sheet.
Probably won't lead to much....but It'll be interesting to see where it might lead.
This blog was useful in updating the application form at any rate.

Someone needs to update the wikipedia entry on WW2OL
Because right now it's very short, unapealing, concentrates on the worst parts of the history of the game, dosn't have any mention of what you can DO in the game, links or descriptions of any of the weapons of vechiles, and compared to the other MMOG's listed, ugly.
So yes, that all means it's probably an accurate description of the game, but lets not be litterel huh?
And there's no to little mention of the COMMUNITY, speficaly, this fourm.
I havn't got the time to do it myself, I'm hoping some of you lot can. With the (delayed) re-release FIANNLY coming out 6 months late, WW2OL needs a larger presence.
I'm looking at you SRES and GUNNIE.

I'd forgotton how bad Civ III is
Battleground Europe Forums - I'd forgotton how bad Civ III is
I was reading some previews on Civ IV and got all nostalgic about Civ III..thinking I never really gave it a chance when I bought it.
Since then I've played GalCiv and Rome:TW a lot.
My GAWD civ III sucks. It dosn't even have "auto roads" SMAC did! Just playing the tutorial is painful...after about 2 minutes theres no more help and EVERYTHING has to be done manually. Seems to be no city govener, and if you want to work out anything you have to go to the city page. Units move painfully slowly and diplomatic pages are ugly, the game seems to be stuck in 1024 and you can't change the resolution.
Then I rembembered all the BAD things I didn't like about it. Ugh, it would get worse!
SO...do the expansions make the game worth playing?
Update: The Civ IV offical trailer is the worst game trailer I have ever seen in my life. Never have I seen a game trailer that put me off a game so fast. YUCK.
Whiskey Bar: A Chorus Line
Whiskey Bar: A Chorus Line
I was wanting to write "The Movies" movie on GWB. Billmon just wrote it!
Scene: A soundstage somewhere on the outskirts of Baghdad. In front of the stage, a camera crew is adjusting their equipment, while other technicians fiddle with the lights. On the stage, a dance company is warming up doing stretches, practicing their kicks, twirls, etc. We see they are in military uniform, or rather, military costume camouflage tights and khaki leg warmers, olive drab tank tops with screaming eagle logos on the front, red-white-and-blue headbands, etc. Most are the dancers are men, lean and hard bodied, but one is a woman, looking a little confused and awkward. She tries a few leg kicks and we can tell right away she isnt a real combat dancer. An Army captain and a tough, hard-faced drill sergeant stand by the side of the stage.
A middle-aged woman in civilian clothes pants suit, blouse and scarf, with the suit jacket draped over her shoulders and a pair of designer sunglasses pushed up on her forehead -- strides on stage, clapping her hands to get everyones attention. This is deputy assistant defense secretary Allison Barber. Her assistant -- a short, stout little man in a polo shirt trails behind, holding a clip board. The dancers quickly line up and snap to attention.
The Movies : THE next big game
The Movies Screenshots
So long as it's not crashingfull of bugs, this game is going to be the megahit of the year, surparsing the Sims.
All the frustrated artisitc types like me can FIANNLY get a PC to do all the work and make a masterpiece.
90% of the online movies will be crap...just like hollywood. The blockbusters will be woundeful to watch.
Intentions:
A movie demonaizing the HC commands and the Code of Conduct. WW2 propoganda movies!
A modern day story where one GWB is the clear and present villian. Mabye the movie story of the Plume affiar.
The Movies is going to launch a lot of peoples live into moving to hollywood.

Badger gets a better job...Fog-who?
GOODBYE BADGER
As many of you may have heard, long-time CRS friend and lead member of the community management team, Scott "Badger" Hinds has stepped down. He recently was offered a huge career opportunity that he simply could not turn down. While he wants to remain an active member of the WWIIOL community, he cannot commit the time needed to fulfill his CM role.
Badger's contribution over the past several years is immeasurable and all of us at Playnet/CRS extended our biggest and most sincere appreciation for his efforts. We wish him all the best and look forward to the day when he may return to a larger role with us.
I wounder where he went? Sony? EA? Warhammer? I suspect hes getting paid a LOT more, so I can't blame him.
HELLO FOGABAN
We are very pleased to announce that Steve "Fogaban" Brown has accepted a position on the community management team alongside Scott "Bable" Babb. Fogaban has been an active member for a long time and has served in a variety of roles in the game. Many of you had a chance to meet him in person at the last player convention and in his new higher profile role you will, no doubt, be hearing a lot more from him.
Who? Mabye he's been under anothe handle, but I've never heard of him. Must be a ex-GHC?

Anyone planning on using "The Movies" to make WW2OL films?
Battleground Europe Forums - Anyone planning on using "The Movies" to make WW2OL films?
So next month "The Movies" from Lionhead is coming out. I know there's US and German army costumes in it, so you can make auth-en-tic WW2 movies.
Anyone planning on making WW2OL based movies? Or for that matter, remaking some old ones, in particlaur "WW2OL in 60 seconds flat" .
The movies would solve my biggest problem with making a WW2OL movie, in that it makes it very easy to do good camera angles.
Want I would like to do is a movie poking fun at the current AHC and CoC shenagiens and wackiness, fiannly I can make some political point scoring, and I have computer generated actors doing all the hard work.

Will the next campaign be the start of an Allied victory streak?
Battleground Europe Forums - Will the next campaign be the start of an Allied victory streak?
I have full confidence that if the axis are able to spawn Tigers, the allied lose. I don't care where the map is, once the Tigers arrive EVERYONE will be playing axis. There won't be any allied players left on the map within a week, and it won't be because the front has moved from Aachan to Dunkirk in 2 days.
You have never seen an inbalance as you will the day the Tiger comes out. Mark my words.

Here's a simple thread to separate the men from the boys. There's been enough screaming about this. It's time to stake your reputation on your opinion and 'insight' and let the facts either prove your right or prove to all that you have no idea what you're talking about.
I have 5 questions for you. Answer them and in three months we'll see who had a clue and who was just blowing smoke.
________________
1) Below are two map radar views of mission members of an infantry attack from an MS on a town by a river or road (assume its not a factor.) In three months time when looking at your mission members will they be most often arrayed more like Option 1 or like Option 2?
2) Agree or Disagree: In three months time there will be at least one thread on the front page of the barracks complaining about radar.
3) In three months time will you, personally, be using radar to locate your own mission members:
a. All of the time
b. Very frequently
c. Once in a while
d. Maybe once ever few play sessions
e. Never
4) In three months time, in a poll conducted of the player base, what percentage will indicate that they view radar as a positive and welcomed system.
____ %
*** BONUS (optional): Looking at the Options above, which one is a closer refection of a "realistic" tactical disposition for an attack. Explain why. Explain why the other option is not as realistic given WWII infantry training, planning, and execution.
Please post your answers and please post ONLY your answers. Use the other discussion threads to talk about why you feel the way you do. In this thread just stick to going on record.
See you in three months.
1) Option 2. I have NO confidence the player base can act that organzied. We shall see eh.
2) Agree. I have full confidence someone in the playerbase will be whining about it.
3) a. All of the time. But I'll be stuck in the Mobile Spawn, so at least I'll have something to do.
4) 85 %

Overhear at Turbine...why AC2 failed?
I'm sure some of the same quotes got used at CRS at one stage or another
Alternate credits for Asherons Call 2
OVERHEARD AT TURBINE:
--------------------
Jesse: "I'm busy responding to criticism on the boards."
DaveJ: "Might as well flick bread pellets in a black hole, man."
ChrisL: "The Tumeroks will have blow guns?"
Pierson: "Yes."
ChrisL: "So does that mean we'll have Blowing Mastery spells?"
Pierson: "Back to your hole! Go!"
Foster: "My random character looks like Robin!"
Josh: "Why is Robin naked?"
Pierson: "Well, Billy ..."
Foster: "And thus the Vertigo Comics line was born."
Jesse: "Have you ever been blessed by a dirty old priest?"
ScottS: "I didn't know that was the standard we were going for."
Troop: "You know Nik, you're almost too much of an assh-le to have been raised in the midwest."
Cardell: "Nik, were you raised by hedgehogs?"
Nik: "F-ck you and the crack you're smoking!"
Troop: "I'm hoping the loot system changes will balance melee with magic ... but I doubt it will."
Nik: "What are you putting in the loot system?"
Troop: "Your mom."
Payson: "When I played UO, I'd survive on three fishsticks a day. And Dr. Pepper. I used to play UO for 15 hours a day. When I got hungry, I'd feed my character. I was very immersed."
ChrisL: "That's not immersion, that's drowning!"
Josh: "You know how many times I've seen Slayer in concert?"
DaveJ: "That's nothing to brag about, Bud-swiller."
Pierson: "I think you just grew a NEW vein in your forehead."
Nik: "That's why I wear the hat."
DaveJ: "Profanity is the last refuge of the witless."
Josh: "Duh, f-cker."
Raiter: "Sean, say something witty for the quote file."
SeanL: "Witty? Uh, I don't do witty on demand. What is the quote file, exactly?"
DaveJ: "But Nik, at least you are still swift of feet and tall of soul."
Nik: "Dave, why don't you go hang out with the other men of Gondor, okay?"
DavidL: "We don't do half-assed jobs around here."
Pierson: "No, we go all ass."
Josh: "I eat raw onion. My granddad would pull 'em out of the ground and say, 'Men eat these raw, like apples.' "
DaveJ: "It's a wonder your line procreated."
Jesse: "Don't bother me. I'm a very important person."
Cardell: "Yeah, what are you doing over there? You're beating up a Drudge."
Jesse: "Hey, that's heroic."
Cardell: "No it's not. It's beating on a hamster in a barrel."
ScottS: "You guys are all fired!"
Pierson, MikeS, Randy: "Woohoo!"
Nik: "Your favorite game sucks."
Tish: "Which one?"
Nik: "Doesn't matter."
Did we lost a lot of commanders this fortnight?
This thread has a half life of 15 minutes before it gets deleted. Anyone from the Axis side will get a laugh about it.
Players include a BEF Div commander, a RN Div commander (whos going axis for the next map), BEF brigade commander and BEF Land forces commander.
Allied Headquarters :: View topic - Did we lost a lot of commanders this fortnight?
Now, I'm not in the AHC, and I dunno how long this thread's going to last, but if I ask on playshool I'll be told to ask here.
I have heard that 20+ AHC members have been removed for:
Non-particpation
Disagreeing with higer commander policies
And that furthermore, severel officers have quit due to this.
Anyone care to comment on this? Is it true? False? If true, why where so many commanders fired from thier postions.

Feet of Clay Oh Death, Where Is Thy Sting?
Feet of Clay Oh Death, Where Is Thy Sting?
This makes the Holy Trinity of WoW as Robot Jesus Brand Power (unit sales and mindshare), Polish (high conversion from an excellent newbie experience), and Weak Capital Punishment (non-retroactive death penalty for a low churn).
Of these 3, WW2OL really only has 1...and it's problem in WW2OL was you tend to die QUICK, one shoot and boom is common. So you drive out of the FB for 5 minutes and die before you see what shot you.
Spawnable depots, and spawnable mobile spawn points fixed that problem for infantry..mostly. But right now if I'm in "looking for fun" mode, and I can't find any MSPs up in the brigade listing..I will log off. Hooking up with other fighters is impossible, and usuaully impossible to stay with once you enter combat, unless you're on the same TS channel.
Now 1.20 might justy FIX this. I can spawn in on a misson, and see EXCATLY whos doing what, where. Whats more, if I'm the misson leader I can mark targets, objecves, rally points and fallback postions. Hopefully it will help a lot.

Serenity
Anyone who is a SF fan, needs to go see Serenity. 9/10. Seen it twice. VERY good film. Great lines and characters, and an awsome battle at the end.
Also, the guy who plays Mal did this..
RPGnet Forums - My GenCon SoCal Firefly game was going smoothly then Captain Mal showed up
So it's Saturday afternoon at GenCon SoCal this past weekend and my Gurps Firefly game I'm running seems to be going quite well, the adventure is building toward a slam-bang finale and everyone's doing great with their characters, the roles from the show.
Then it all gets surreal when Nathan Fillion, the actor who plays Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the series, shows up and sits down to play.
Turns out he had been signing autographs elsewhere on the showfloor and one of my players very nicely asked if he'd stop by. For all his awesomeness, he did.
An incredibly nice guy, we clued him in on the scenario, went over the character sheets with him -- he got a crack out of some of the quirks I had written up for the "Mal" character -- and he rolled some dice with us. The players and myself exchanged looks because we realized this was the coolest fucking moment of our geek-gaming lives. Our table at the con suddenly became the center of the universe as people would rush up and gape in astonishment. Captain Reynolds *at* a Firefly game? Too perfect!
And, yes, I had performance anxiety as the GM but not nearly as much as the poor player who had Mal's character (though Nathan did some Chinese swear phrases for us and it was a complete blast).
Photo here as proof.
The geek world just got some new heroes.
Joss Wheldon posted on the "browncoats" fourm (closed, you need to rego to enter) that the movie got 3.9 (some sites say 4.2) whis is less than expected :(. He said it'lll be a slow burn of a movie before it takes off.
I hope so, but I doubt it. The 1st place I saw it at had NOT ONE POSTER UP ABOUT IT.
It really deserves a sequal and/or TV series.
YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE
