I have a LOT more appircation of the director. He did a fine job. I was worried about Will Smith.
But that's the point. Smith IS the wrong person. That's the point of a large chunk of the movie (and my I add, the Policeman character in the original Azimov 'The Caves of Steel' novel.
It lost another mark for the first 5 minutes showing off Will Smiths Bad Ass.
It also used Matrix effects in good ways, though a tad overused, it worked well at the end.
I trust I am not spoling anyone when I say NEVER TRUST AN AI THAT LOOKS LIKE SHODAN! Soon as I saw THAT...well yes. I kept expecting her to refer to Smith is a small creature running through her. Then again, Shodan was insane, and this AI wasn't it (Zeroth law and all that|).

Big Gigantic ATRs
Spawn, run, deploy my gun
Spot a tank on a hill and its time for fun
Its mr. Squishee with a trick up his sleeve
Gun is so long you will not believe
I cant define the joy I get
as I align sight picture
and shoot and hit
ah sh*t
It exploded a bit
squashed the b$%ch
and stoped the camping kids
This gun makes me hallucinate
Run with this gun it is so much weight
Till I see weird shat start happenin'
There goes bilton he has killed all the germans again
So trounce, trounce, c'mon trounce
I said c'mon trounce
Ralpher in the house with this to announce
MY CAPSLOCK KEY SEEMS TO BE STUCK DOWN
No more bullsh*t, bilton capped the town
Grab an ATR and roam around
Bizarre, the planes warp in and out
AA guns are screwed over without a doubt
F*&k that, someone capped bouillon
grab all your squads and begin to spawn
its on
Get you a weapon' battle lines been drawn
Its gonna be ugly 'cos the tanks are gone
YEAH I TOOK 'EM ALL DOWN TO ATTACK HERBEUMONT
and I think all saps are gone
it looks a bit glum
Young, unsung, and fulla dumb
hey guys heads up I hear the panzers come
oh shat there goes the ET alarm
everybody quick go grab an ATR
hey stop shooting stupid
dumb new guy
theyll see you and your sure to die
Just wait a bit

Note I compeltly missed the first 2 parts, by the time I logged on the Eind N FB was allied.
At that point the germans DID start resuppling panzers. Forutnaly they were spotted by Air/Ground recon. I took a 2 pounder out to the East road and Sgtmaj0r got a matty on the S road.
Howveer the town fell before the panzers arrived (or the early ones were bombed by Hurri II's) but I belive ALL the counterattacking panzers were killed before they reached town by the cut off teams.
The bit about setting up a forward postion with 2 pounders/a camle and some infantry is a very good idea. I saw it in action at...Eind(?) I think 3 days ago. We had a Camle, a 2 pounder and a LMG and an ATR (me) set up about 250m N of town in a beam trench area. They killed any panzers nosing around the north side and when the truck load of infantry arrived to take the north depot it was a breeze. The 2 pounder was in a perfect postion to cover the spawn from any camping panzers and I think killed 3 panzers with flank shots as they went off to defend agianst attacks down the west road (hmm, couldn't have been eind).
With the new berms and trees nearly every town CAN now have a base of fire setup. 2 of them would be needed to deal with IHHHH's for the flank shots, but good recon beforehand would handle that. It would also prevent the panzercampingspawn problem becaause the Base of Fire can shoot them in the flank/rear as they deploy around out spawnable.

I'd have to dispute Air Warrior being a first generation online war sim. I know it had ground components, but, it was and always will be Air Warrior. That's not to say that the WWII Online lineage doesn't trace back to Air Warrior (although more directly WarBirds since most of the Rats were formerly members of the WarBirds team; the Rats got to know me through the WarBirds.org and my other WB-community involvements).
What will the next generation of MMOBFs have?
- Minimum bandwidth requirements that are spelled "DSL"
- Graphics ahead of gameplay (this is pragmatic: because it sells better, and if it doesn't make WWII/PlanetSide look better, it will be hard to get money into it)
- Depending on the producers: probably an AI system for creating objectives so that players fight each other over system-generated objectives (Red team must destroy the train, blue team must defend it)
- Probably no built in VoIP
- A 1GB disk space requirement
- A 1GB base memory requirement
- A GeForce 5 with 256mb base video card requirement

and it truly does detract from the ww2online experience. As a guy who has never flown, i was a newbie in that respect.
Look, you're right. It DOES need improvement. Some pople JUST want instant action. Fair enough.
But you're not doing you're case any good. You havn't said (I think) WHICH airbase you were waiting at. Lets assume you were British.
There are THREE airfield. About 3 MINUTES flight time from each other. Eindhoevn, S.Hergebouch and Glitz. 5-10 minutes away from them lie Antwerp and Brussels. Another 5 minutes behind THEM are Knokke and some French airfields.
There is no freeking way you could not find a plane within 20 minutes of the front, and I find it hard to belive Glitz, S.Hergebioch AND Eindhoven were out of Hurricane I's. Or for that matter, I find it somewhat hard to belive there were any Non misson Spitfire I's either.
But as you say, it is a somewhat valid complaint. The rats are aware of it, and Brigade Deployment coming before the end of the year (with probably a free trial too later) will probably fix it. Sign up for a RAF Squadron and hit Instant Action. Boom, problem fixed. It takes time, and so far we've been waiting 9 months for it, and its going to be getting started as of 1.16 I belive. Mabye only 6 weeks (probably 3 months is my guess).
But you went out of you way to be an idiot when making you're point. And for THAT you lose the argument.
Let me guess who you really are? You're the guy in the British Intellegence services who told Tony Blair Iraq could launch WMD's...in 45 minutes?
:) That was a joke, son. But you're entire post begs it be done. Persoaonly, I now think you're someone's 2nd account created as a joke. Well, you fooled me on page 1, but now this is getting ludicraous.
Calm down, learn to fly in ENGLAND where you won't lose a plane someone worked for at a FRONT LINE AIRFIELD where every plane counts. Once you can take off and land, get a Hurricane from Antwerp or Brussels (or Glitz if you must) and fly East. When you see a river gojng N/S, thats the front line, roughly. Good luck, stay high, go fast and try and RTB you're plane to a FRONT LINE AIRFIELD WHERE YOU CAN USE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN, SO LONG AS YOU MAY CONTINUE TO NOT DIE.
THAT is the problem with youre complaint. You want persoanl spawn limits? Speed 10 extra minutes flying from a rear airfield AND THAT PLANE IS YOURS, UNTIL YOU GET SHOTDOWN OR LOG OFF.
There, happy?"

Quoting from the other thread...
Quote:
German: Tiger ausf E
British: Churchill VII
French: Sherman M4A3E2
Tier 3 will be, where each tank even at 100m cannot touch the other tanks frontal armour... they will have to flank each other to get a shot off, or bring in a bigger gun (or plane for the Germans, since they don't HAVE any bigger guns)...
it is a basically a tier where each tank CANT kill each other frontally from normal distances... or from the side in some incidences (tiger won't be able to penetrate the jumbo at the super long ranges you normally see in the south... from the side, while churchills 95mm side armour... which is 5mm les thick then tigers frontal armour, will also be impervious to the tiger at long distances....)
in other words, the only tanks the tiger can take out at "2 km" will be the tanks from earlier tiers.... while the churchill AND jumbo can take out ANY OTHER axis tank out from side or rear (except PzIIIH, at extreme distances) at long ranges...
now THAT is fair.
Sounds good to me.

Corpnews :: View topic - Content versus Bug fixing: "WW2OL aims (and as you can guess, usually misses by a week or two) for a 6 week patch cycle. That means every 6-10 weeks new content (a new tank, or a new plane, or a new infantry weapon for each side, a tactical combat change and a graphics update of something, this patch was the garage and then grass clutter) and new bug fixes (usually found as a result of adding new content releaseing a bug that was hiddin in the code waiting to ambush till then).
I don't understand why *EQ* would have problems because it's such a mature product, but I can see why SWG has. Like WW2OL in it's first 18 months, they are trying to fix problems that originted BEFORE LAUNCH in the design documentantion AND provide new content.
Only games that launched without massive bugs seem to be able to avoid this, and even then games likd DoAC seemed to have problems with higher level stuff because not enough time was spent thinking about those problems before launch, presubaly on the assumption 'It's ok, players will take 1 year to reach level 50 anyway. We have plenty of time'.
In fact from whatm I see about CoH's, and new content only for high level players, EVERYONE has this attituide. Only when the attiute of 'we don't need to finish the game at high levels AT launch, because we'll hve time to fix them later' is gone will these problems go away with them. COnsidering I think this is part of the software process, and every large computer system on the planet does that too, this should be around the time of Heat Death of the Universe.
AT least, I'm sure you could write a book on game design on this. Mabye a chapter...or two. 'High Level Content, and why it needs to be done before players start at a low level'. Naturally, this is obvious, and no one will pay attention either."

I have. He plays french, and I've seen it around the Sedan/Verdan area. AFAIK he's not in the AHC as an officer of a Brigade, meaning it's not his JOB to be the OiC of attacks and defence, but he does do it.
And I am always thankful when he does. WW2OL needs more players who WILL OiC even when it's not expected of them.
And Bilton does that sometimes. When players like him, not an "offical" commander as far as CRS is concered*, take up the diffculut and often thankless job of commanding, more credit to him.
As you can see, he's a WW2OL Builder. Meaning he put his money where his mouth is. Something me and you have never done really. Bilton's a beliver, and I for one don't knock him for it.

Biltons right of course. Most infantry never saw tanks, and wern't killled by them either.
Artiallry. Fear it.
You want no tanks? Then the only way to really kill the enemy is large shells. Fired from 2-20 kilometers away. The VAST majority of combat causialies were caused by artiallry. All sides will do it, all sides need to do it..and all sides infantry will hate it. Which is what the real PBI in the war thought as well.
Actually the german players will HATE this far far more. Horse Drawn and all that. Very slow and an easy target. None of this shoot and scoot business the americans perfected, or the russian/british style of just getting so many guns you think the horizon is on fire.
Do you really want that?

so in otherwords, i spent 1 hour in total tonight, doing absolutely nothing..
I have got to ask, where excatly where you LOOKING? The RAF with 3 airadromes nearby the front means Antwerp and Brussels ALWAYS have planes of one type or another. If you're never flown before, there WILL be Hurricanes avilable, even in the non misson spawn list.
If there's no misson avuilablem AND no planes on any airfields near the front (a point I find hard to belive!), ask on the radio channels for someone to POST a misson from an airfield that does have planes. Talk to you're fellow players. You might even find someone to wing with you and thus stay ALIVE long enough on the front...the frontline is a dangerous place.
Ask on 99 and say you're a newbie flyer and would like help.
Granted the tools CRS gave us to do all these arn't immidatly obvious...something the revamped UI should hopefully fix, along with Brigade deployment.
But 45 minutes after waiting 10? I call crud. Even a flight from ENGLAND to Molan-Glahbach is 45 minutes in a Havoc!"
232 jet fighter will need to be RDP'ed...AFTER the bomber varient!
WWII Online :: View topic - 232 jet fighter will need to be RDP'ed...AFTER the bomber!
As is well known, the 232 Jetfighter was...designed as a fighter. Hitler saw it and wanted it to be a bomber.
THUS, the first two 232's in action over the normedny beachead were the bomber varient.
In 6 years time when we get to June 1944 (when the first..err 2, 232's were in action) they should be the bomber varients. We're not getting bomber varients of the Spit IX, FW190 or the P-38. For excatly the same reason, the 232 should be first introduced as the model it was first introduced in combat as the bomber version and THEN RDP the fighter varient.
Sure that won't take LONG, no so long as the intital version will to get out (which should start RDP around 1940-41 and came out around 1944), but that is the order it should be.
Otherwise I will be quite happy to RDP Crusader III's with the 6 pounder gun first and then the Crusader II later. Or the Shermabn Firefly and then the Sherman with the 75mm later.
'Corse by the time we GET to 232's and Meteors (what would be the French plane? Bearcats?) the rats should have enabled loadouts, allowing us to choose what we want to attack to the plane before takeoff.
For example, 500 pound bombs for the Hurricane II. IF you think the fighter varient of the 232 should be enabled FIRST, so should 500lb bombs for the Hurriane (not to mention bvy then 120000lb Tallboy bombs for the Lancaster).
Some (Doc for example) will say it's a tad early to be aruging this stuff. Well, the rats need to look ahead 6-12 months ahead...meaing in a year or two from now, this disscussion will take place (again).
And I'll have this thread ready.

Bascialy if town is in danger of falling ANYONE can type .overrun. When enough (3 I think) people do that, a message is sent out saying 'TOWN XXX IS IN DANGER OF FALLING' and trhe High Command types online at the time get sent a message to check it out.
If enough High Command players (you can see them by typing .hc) feel the town IS in danger they can call .Hold At All Costs or .Fallback.
.HAAC it is known, means all depots release the limits on the amount of infantry that can be spawned at them. This is dangerous because you can go through a LOT of infantry VERY quickly. But you might juet be able to stop the enemy attack. It's considered TOO good an option so the rats are seeeing ways they can limit it a bit.
.fallback is a bit misleadingly named. It gives the Army Base to the enemy, but opens up the FB's from friendylu towns, and moves the town's supply list to the linked towns over the next 30 minutes. Meaning if you do an IMMIDATE counter attack, the enemy won't have anything avilable to DEFEND theier captured town and you can take the town back easy.
Well, it's not so easy, but it does work occansiualy.
If you see a town with a SHIELD ICON thats a .HAAC. A RADIO TOWER is a town in danger of falling (.overrun). Only 2 towns a hour can use .HAAC or .fallback.
Rembemer a town that is CONTESTED is ussually a place opf action because with depot spawning, the enemy can now spawn a limited amout of infantry (about 40 every 20 minutes) In the enemy town...ie from 10 to 200 meters away from the other friendly held depots. The new ATR's are reported tio make lunch meat of the light armour that uisually shows up to surpress the spawnable too."

News about Military Blunders at StrategyPage.com's How to Make War.
July 20, 2004: Every war is different in its own way. Naturally, the fighting in Iraq has created some uniquely surreal moments, but one of the more surreal occurred when a young captain ran out of minutes on his cell phone while calling in an air strike. Say what? Let us explain.
In some parts of Iraq, the standard army radios have reliability problems, so satellite phones were issued to get around this. There was one minor draw back. Rather than given unlimited time for the phone, users were given a wallet card containing codes to enter to "fill up" the phone with more air time minutes. The codes were of the scratch off type.
Then, a captain with one of these satellite phones was driving along in bandit country one night and begins to take sniper fire. There were apparently two snipers, but a lot of other civilians wandering around. His units solution for problems like this was to call in an Apache gunship, which could use its superior night vision equipment to spot the bad guys, and help kill them.
There was a problem, as the captain had left on this trip without checking his satellite phone to make sure it was “charged” with minutes. It wasn’t. The card with the refill codes was in his BDU blouse pocket, which, of course, was underneath his protective vest. With the snipers popping away, he shed his bulletproof vest, got out the card, scratched if to get the numbers, entered the numbers to recharge the cell phone, called in for the Apache gunship, got his protective vest back on, made sure where all his troops were, and awaited the gunship. Soon the gunship showed up, found the snipers, and began taking care of them. At this point, a few hummers full of heavily armed troops from a nearby unit showed up and their leader announced; "we heard you were in a fight, can we join in?" The captain immediately thought, "I haven't heard that kind of talk since high school." There were no American casualties.

We're not argueing the 3.7' should be eaiser to deploy. But to say it wasn't on the battlefield is pure insanity. I supose next you'll be saying there should not be Spitfires in France but forget to deploy the Luftwaffe back to Germany!
Quote:
Hurri 2C with 500lbs bombs? Wow, that`s some effective CAS aircraft indeed. Did you miss the Havoc, upgraded Blenheim in the game, tell me my dear, in what way those are worser than an improvized fighter-bomber with no bombsights at all ?
The Havoc only HAS 250lb bombs. The DB7 has French 200kg bombs. And now you're saying trhe Blen is an BETTER version than real life? My gawd you must be scared of it if you think it's supposed to be WORSE in game?!?!
I want to
- take the 3h away from the Axis. It's a fantasy unit, and needs to hve 20mm of marshmellow taken off the front turrent.
- take the 88 away from the Axis. Yes, until the French 75 and 25 pounder, or some other artiallry gun IS added for the allies.
- spread your own primitive lies what the Axis think about tank combat in the game. I belive this is you talking about yourself.
- and again, take that 3H away from the Axis. You betcha. Replace it with the J model, it has less armour."

How to fly a plane in WW2OL
Doh. Spent an hour writing this, and the guy at corpnews just wanted to know about the free trial!
-------------
Ok, you mean online I'm assuming, so I'm assuming you've signed up for the game. I suggest you try learning to FLY offline first though (which you download for free). Flying a plane,. as it's a simulation is not as easy as the ground game. It just takes practice. Please avoid crashing many planes on takeoff or landing at front line airfields.
Go to http://www.wwiionline.com. Click either Play for Axis or Allies.
Click Click to Play
Game will load
Go to the keymapper and map keys for airplanes (you DO have a joystick right?). Map the thottle and hat keys if you have them. I also map the gear key (G), WEP (Emerrgency power, I can't rembemer the key it defautls to), Engine start (E) and check the Fire button 1 and 2 are on buttons I can reach (depends on the joystick).
CLick the mouse in the empty radio channels to the left and tune channel 99. Channel 99 is the duty channel for trainers and newbies. You'll also be on the fourm channel (which not many people are on becuasde few people stay looking at the map).
On the map zoom in. You'll see the cities. Look for an Airfield Icon near the front line (hint: it looks like a plane. Some look like bombs as they are bomber airfields). Click on it. and you'll see the airfield icon (you might need to zoom in again to unclutter the display). Right now Eindhoven for the British, Rhiems for the French and Bertix for the germans are close to the front. I DO reccomend if you're new to this, go to England and pracice THERE rather than losing all the planes on a front line airfield first. All countires have airfielda a LONG way back from the front line.
You should be at the airfield misson list. Click one that looks like an enemy town.
You should go to the list of aircragft avilable, pick one. If it's a front line airfield there may be none avilable, depends on the time of the day. As a newbie pilot you'll also be limited to Hurricanes, Hawk75's and BF110's.
Click launch.
You'll end up in the pilot seat. At this point you'll be autotuned to the radio channel OBJECTIVE channel for the target misson you took. Hopefully there are other people attacking it too. Press RETURN to get the chat window up. Say you're a newbie and ask for help if you need it.
Press E to start engine (you might have to hold it down a few seconds). Watch the puff of smoke. Push the thottle full forward and roll down the airfield. Pull up before you hit the tree or go off the airfield (the grass colour changes).
Gain height and avoid encountering the ground, trees, hills buildings or enemy planes in a collision. Press G to raise you're gear. Press M to see a map. The red arrow points to you're misson objective, the blue arrow to home base you launched from. Follow the red arrow till you see an enemy. If you see no enemys ask on the radio where there might be some. Good luck at surviving the combat. Press the joystick trigger to fire you're main guns (all of them on the british and french plane, the MG's only on the german 110. 2nd fire shots the cannons).
If alive, return to your base and rember to lower you're gear (G) before you land. Chop the thottle as you come in and press X and Z to break the wheels. DOon't do that too early. When stopped (or dead) press ESC to exit.
Note: Lum's old TAXI TO VICTORY does cover this somewhat :), as does the Getting Started Guide along with the Training page and the Online maunual there.

It's currently only for Euro players (England, France and germany) I think. More free trials are said to be coming, dunno when (probably after 1.16).
Anyways, that's not a nice comment, bob. It's been 3 years now, and you can shoot the gun with just one click if you want to. If you want to diss the game (and there are things well worth dissing, like any game, just try asking an allied player about the extra 20mm of marshmellow in the PZIIIH front turrent, or the upcoming researcable 1897 French 75mm that won't come into the game until 1942), at least diss THIS years version and not one Lum made everyone laugh at in June of 2001.
The outdoors arn't far cry level, but the're a hell of a lot better than RTCW's outdoors.
Anyways, it's a free DOWNLOAD if nothing else, so there's nothing stopping you downloading it and see if you like the control systems (now the first MMOG that I know off that suports TrackIR!) or not.
This weeks production notes goes somewhat into what's happening soon with the 1.15 patch (No, it's not sniper rifles, just Anti Tank Rifles that will break you're collerbone if youu try and fire then standing up). It also mentiones a re-reveiw of WW2OL . it was writtin by an Axis player (who's copped quite a lot of anger from allied players over that) but is mostly fair and reasonable (example: he compalins that the axis early war tanks are weak. The're not supposed to be Tiger I's yet). The production notes has some points about it from Doc of CRS.
The germans DID get Masstrict back...three times. I was involved in the last allied capture of it, but the introduction of the PanzerIIIIH has kicked the allies in the teeth as usual and we're back to defending Namur again

Now then, Doc was saying about how this will balance out with the ATR.
Now, why is an antipersoannl grenade killing so many tanks? Doc?!?!

HE for 6pdr? Man you are dreaming. Please don`t mix your own surrealism with how it historically was. Historical fact : NO H.E. issued for British 2pdrs and 6pdrs. That`s why the 75mm guns replaced them.
Sadly the Allies didn`t really have one - unless you count the 17pdr. Live with it. Oh wait. You DON`T mean the British should be able to spawn 88s, now do you..?
Ok, you're insane. Out the window. one shot short of a 10 round quickier firing enfield rifle magazine. 1 inch missing off a 3.7" AA gun. A few shells short of a 25 pounder battary. A truck that's missing it's 6" artiallry gun. Totally compeltly and utterly WRONG.
Uhm, very sad, you almost made me weep. But, when did the Allies had anything designed to be an aerial anti-tank platform? Uhm, never. So that`s Allied aerial AT capability, so that`s what you get.
Ok I get it, you're doing this delibatry. Unfotunaly for you, I shall mark this thread. I shall save this thread. And when the next axis idiot comes back with an attempted explantion of what excatly IS that amazing 20mm worth of staypuff marshmellow that is in the front turrent of the PIIIH, I shall point them to this thread.
And proceed to bomb you from a altitude of 24,000 feet, with a 10 ton bomb dropped from a Lancaster bomber, able to FLIP UPSIDE DOWN you're petty and pathethic Tiger I's.
"corse wer both know, CRS would never allow THAT to happen in game. It would be too much for for the few allied players online at the time.

Ohhhh the amusement of this. Tall poppy brought low. I wounder who slashdoted them.
Doc says...."and In Conclusion, the British players are ******".
Thos thread has pics of the new ATR's.
From this weeks production notes:
Here are some guidelines for you. PzB.39 (Axis ATR) first, then Boys.55 (Allied ATR for both French and British)... treat this as a rough guide because a lot depends on the shot you take there is possibility for some variety in results depending on the shot taken, and at what it is taken of course.
Matilda :- Forget it. Top hulls and turret roofs of most AFVs are the exception, they are all within the ATRs abilities on both sides, with the French the hardest but still *possible* if you can get a top side shot from close above.
Crusader II :- Frontally (turret and hull) will be difficult.
CharB1.bis :- Turret and hull all around, basically don't even bother. You can penetrate the radiator grille area of course.
R35 :- Another one that won't be easy. Front hull is a closerange/goodangle proposition though.
S35 :- Forget the turret, which is the same turret as the CharB1.bis actually. Hull is possible but iffy, depending on the shot, front hull is at the max. limit of the PzB.39's ability, sides are not far behind the front.
H39 :- Turret I doubt it'll be worth the shot. Hull sides and front/rear are all at the upper end of the PzB.39 penetration, so it's possible but not dead easy like ... say an A13 will be.
A13 :- dead easy anywhere.
Vickers :- same.
Stuart :- Front hull and turret presents some difficulties, but not everywhere. Hull sides/rear and turret are all medium/upper level of penetration.
Daimler :- uh huh.
Panhard :- more fast food for the PzB.39 I would imagine.
For the Boys.55 it looks like this :-
PzKwIIc :- if you avoid the mantlet, pretty much do it easy anywhere.
PzKwIIIf :- tough task but the rear hull is vulnerable up close.
PzKwIIIh :- forget it. For Allied ATRs this is your Matilda/Char.
PzK38(t):- hull and turret front avoid. The rest is doable, but get close. Actually getting close is good advice for all the ATRs, if you want good result ratios to shots fired. You have to pick the interior targets out, remember. You're killing an elephant with a rapier. Far away you can't be so picky as to select your shot placement, and your penetration falls off at range rather a lot, and you don't have much to spare, if any at all.
SdKfz232 :- MacDonalds happy meal. Again, you have to pick your shot placement or you hit empty space, but penetration is easy on this one.
StuGIIIb :- get a top side shot from above, up close, or don't bother.
PzKwIVd :- hull sides/rear and turret sides/rear are all at maximum of Boys.55 ability, so get real close and perfect angle and it's possible. Everywhere else forget it. Topside deck/turret of course, like most tanks, is pretty easy if you can get into position to get the shot.
SdKfz251c :- no problem anywhere.
I'd rank them on both sides in this order :-
1. Char/PzIIIh/Stug/Matilda - not ATR targets.
2. S35/H39/R35/PzKwIVd/PzKwIIIf - expert ATR targets. Not easy but certainly doable for the skilled.
3. Stuart/CrusaderII/Pz.38(t)/CrusaderII - not always easy but not expert either.
4. Panhard/SdKfz232/PzIIc/A13/Daimler/Vickers - dead easy.
Doc says the following:
Dead easy, easy, difficult, etc.. refer to getting a penetration. A penetration means nothing unless you kill the gunner. driver, or damage the tank enough to prevent it shooting or driving any longer.
In my experience so far (extensive actually since I Q&A'd them for 2 weeks solid) it will take about 12 rounds minimum for most people to gain a kill that prevents the tank shooting back at them, and that's after 2 weeks of quite intensive practice. This was against a Stuart, which I think I described as not easy but not difficult. Some will be easy, some will be harder, some will be impossible and this will all change depending on who is pulling the trigger.
As far as "this will be bad for the British" well, they only other option was not putting ATRs in the game at all, and that was not the option we chose. If you look at what I wrote, the Axis aren't exactly invulnerable to YOUR ATR's either, other than the IIIh and Stug, and you have the Matilda reprsenting the same difficulty to them.
We knew some would freak out, but that can't be the prime directive towards the game design, or you'd all be running around with pulse cannons in titanium armour, and screaming for more firepower and more armour at the same time.
You all knew this was coming, and I am happy to say that after the 2 weeks I spent on the ATRs in Q&A I found them to meet my expectations pretty much perfectly. My expectations came from the same place yours should, ie: what a tank has for amour and what the gun could achieve. Also note that all my "easy" "not easy" definitions were at point blank range (20 feet) and perfect 90 degree impact angles.
At 100 yards and off angles, all my definitions go up at least 1 notch, if not 2.
Try not to panic until after you actually know how good they are, or are not, and until then at least try to be receptive to the vagaries of definitions I used not telling you much ... and certainly nothing like what a bit of in game experience will.
We sure aren't ripping them out now, like a lot of other things, better start learning to adapt to some new tactics. Now, if the case is that the British tanks are thinly armoured you are right. Not a lot we can do about that. The Axis only have a StugIIIb that is able to shrug off the Boys .55 without a lot of concern in their starter set, the rest are killable.
We can't make them all equal. They weren't all equal. We haven't overlooked the fact that the British RG can kill every tank (PzKwIIIh included) the Axis can field but their RG can't kill any of yours.
--------------------------------------------------
So in conclusion, we get 1 tank that can surive it. Until we get Crusaders, all our other tanks can be killed at 200-400meters away. The A13's box for the driver makes it an easy target.
I am now the firm belief that the Matty should be removed from the game. This way we might get enough tanks to overwealm the enemy before we lose all of them, and the germans won';t get so many IIIH's, Stuka's or 88's to compenstate.

Derek Smark wants to make FreeSpace 3

This can't be happening. This can't be happening. No No no no no nononononononononoNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Just reading the thread and I don't get past the first page (I know I should be responding there and not here, but it's the vault)
Then merge it all with a great action focused (with mouse flight controls!!!) campaign that would be true to the franchise. Maybe a few planetary missions (well, I have the tech, why the hell not?) missions to move the campaign story along.
If you want to make you're own game, FINE. But don't stuff up one of the last best space flight sims ever made.
MOUSE FLIGHT CONTROLS?!?!.
Ok ok, fine it worked in Freelancer. Freelancer is not Freespace. Freespace is not WW2OL, In Space. It is not doom, it is not a battleship simulator it is not a role playing game.
Most of the work would be in the graphics engine, campaign backstory (I have the perfect person in mind for that!!), campaign scripting. The biggest job would be having to re-create all the Freespace ship assets from scratch and bring them up to par with the likes of modern day ship designs
Why use Freespace if you're redoing everything?! What, you can't make you're own combat space sim BACKGROUND!?!? And what the hell is "modern day ship design"?!? It looks like the Enterprise 1907X?
If DS wants to make a space sim game, and by some mircale IS a good game, ok, THEN he gets at taking the brandname and making it his own. But so far his work is not good enough.
Then again, with Interplay's currtent state, ANYONE can pick up a interplay licence and run with it as they want. So it's not like we're going to stop him doing it.

Surprise
What does that mean, exactly? Many of the original faults are still in the game yet the reviewer is surprised? Well, it just so happens that they don't really matter all that much. Three years ago I uninstalled World War II Online and lamented a good idea gone bad. Now I can barely force myself to write this article for fear of losing Maastricht to a British counter-offensive. (Sadly, this did happen and I'm currently in the process of re-capturing it)

LOL! I know exactly what you mean. I'm at stage 2 right now with my current work. I inherited the job of maintaining and making changes to some existing code, and I'm just now getting comfortable with it. Change in Orbat. Chain of command? What chain of command
High Command tells me I got dropped to 4iC to give a Euro player .alleid acces as 3iC and that the orbat was changed without his knowlage
Well in THAT case casn I please have .hc access?
I can understand having more people in Euro hours having .allied in any case, but why don't they get put at CORPS level? If there isn't a Euro AT Corps level, there should be, it makes more sense than Divsion.
Please tell whoever changes the orbat to STOP IT. Either we do this through the chain of command or this IS no chain of command. If there is to be no chain of command, we might as well all quit now and let whoe'ves changing it without your knowlage, do everything and ther rest of us can quit quite happily in the knowlage that someone else is happy to do our job for themseleves.

They didn't even bother to tell me I was demoted!
Ok, so I don't have /hc access still, but I was told that only 3IC's or above get it (today). I *was* the 3IC do 2nd div for short while, but now seem to have been demoted to 4iC.
I don't *mind* getting demoetd, but some *notification* would be very nice next time!
1 Actually capping a frontline town without the enemy having been pre warned on EWS. getting to the town circ-umnavigating the then highly accurate AI mg nests / towers to get to the AB was a real blast this IMO has negated the need for individual initiative at a tactical level
There's nothing stopping you capping one of the Leige AB's. I garenntree if you spawn at ther Waremme FB and walk to Leige, and have a minimuim skill stamina and luck score, YOU can singlehandly, cap one of the AB's in Leige. Hecko, good players cap ALL THREE.
The best players get other people to HELP and cap the town with thier teammates.
2 Driving a Char or a Stug to an FB and killing the FB with 75mm. again fighting to the FB and actually doing something positive with a tank instead of camping was a blast
We seem to be detecting a patten here. What's not postive about attriting the enemy? Sure it sucks for THEM, but you're going to have gun while it lasts.
Fighting aginast other players mabye a problem.
3 Bombing an FB with Jus or Blens ..when this was stopped it affected 2 parts of the game i enjoyed a lot 1 FB destrution by air and 2 Air Defence of FBs I musta killed over 1000 aircraft before FB bombing was put to rest ..now AA guns are just DB7, JU or campers fodder at FBs instead of actually contributing to its safety. Its also partly to blame for the increased FB camps.
YOU want to shoot down planes, be my guest. But I'm sure you'rer talking about shooting down Blens, because no Blen COULD blow an FB byitself, something Stuka's had little trouble doing.
You want lots of targets, go sit at an FB on the RIver from Leige North. Lots of Stuka's. LOTS.
4 Climbing trees.I liked to have a vantage point theres too little pesonal local intelligence in this game.
WTF? What, you think sniping from a FAR BETTER camo postion in a new forest is WORSE?!?! Or a new bushline? Excatly who's intel are you dissing here?
5 Actually standing a good chance of obtaining my vehicle of choice at any given FB/AB without 90% of the time ending up with a rifle. (partly due to Camping & spawn limits for a player base thats too large for the current levels.
WTF again? You want it, you drive it. Oh Gawd, the sheer SUFFERING of having to drive a tank from a rear town! Or even worse, from a front line city with more than 1 AB! The german tanks, french Panhards and A13's all take less than 20 minutes to reach the front from ANY 2nd town.
Try not driving a Matty.
I think that the current way things are going will lead to even more restrictive gameplay.
Yes, I think he gets it. It's not longer a ME ME ME game. Other people play this game, and SOME of them are on the same side as you are. SOME of them are not.
Yes I'm coming down, hard. But this is not a day 1 game anymore. It's a WAR. It's PvP. Thh Hardest Online Game PvP on the planet. It's not Quake 1, 2 or 3. It's not EQ and it's defiantly not a single player superhero simulator like MOH:AA.
So in conclusion, on the comstar scale of 1 to 10, 1 being total troll bait, and 10 being the acme of a fourm post with incredbialy intellegent and incisve discussion...

July 10, 10 bells
Today I begin my adventures upon the high sea. I awoke to find myself in the middle of a strange city. All around me the people screamed like madmen, crying, “how do I fire my cannons? U gt ne money 4 me? Im stuck on a raft. Pick me up!” I want little to do with these people, so I boarded my ship. Strangely, I do not seem to know how to actually sail this ship, but after some experimentation I was underway. Adventure awaits!
July 10, 10 Bells
I’m now adrift at sea, with no clear plan to follow. My crew shuffles around nervously asking me what my commands are. I mumble something to the first mate about “just make a map or something while I try to figure this out”. The crew does not view this as being very reassuring. I may have to keel haul one of them just to make myself feel better. I am still surrounded by calls of people screaming about their inability to fire their cannons. I am tempted to join them. My gunnery officer stands mute as I shout at him to fire the cannons. I am starting to think he may be French.
July 10, 11 Bells
Our mapping expedition ended in failure. The watch announced that another ship was spotted. Still in the midst of my argument with my gunnery officer, I decided to raise sail and avoid the encounter. Soon the enemy caught up to me as I hit a sandbar. We had not fired a shot before we were boarded. A swordfight soon erupted on the deck. My First Mate handed me a sword and I met the other captain in fierce combat. Had I known how to use the sword perhaps things would have turned out different, but instead I found myself adrift on a rap screaming at everyone to teach me how to fire the cannons, give me money, and pick me up. I had joined the ranks of the pitiful insane I had encountered before. A Pirates life is not for me.

1) Please take some time here to insult the original griper. It should be noted here that the original griper is a noob or a whiner. At the very least, please note your perceived level of their intelligence. If you feel that you are not able to adequately express your feelings please skip this step and use #'s 2 thru 5 to do so.

2) The orignal griper is a:
a) Noob
b) Whiner
c) Noob and Whiner
d) Whiner and Noob
e) Communist
f) All of the above.
3) The original griper is:
a) Fundamentally stupid.
b) Fundamentally retarded.
4) The original griper is lying in order to:
a) Nerf your country's already shoddy and unuseable equipment
b) Uberfy his/her country's already unkillable and god-like equipment
5) The original griper should go play:
a) BF1942
b) MOH
c) Planetside
d) Everquest
e) Piglet and Roo's Great Adventure
6) Please take a moment here to inform their orignal poster that their posted jpg image of the unit in question is wrong. Specifying why is optional. Please post your own jpg image of the unit. Don't worry if yours is right or wrong. It's both.
7) Please choose your own particular level of WWII knowledge.
a) More than the original griper.
b) More than anyone on the opposing side.
c) More than CRS
d) More than anyone alive.
e) More than Hitler, Churchill and Roosevelt combined.
8) Please state why historically, the original griper's complaint is not only totally and utterly wrong, but is in fact the exact opposite. Please throw in a sarcastic LOL or LMAO. Try to come across with as much haughty disdain for the original poster as possible.

9) Please post any refuting scanned jpg images of WWII era ballistics manuals here. Follow the existing guidelines put forth in the PGF-379. If no manuals are available, please simply state that you read it somewhere sometime. This should be adequate. If your conscience is gnawing at you, promise to post it later after you've tracked it down.
10) Please take a moment here to determine which line from the original griper's post you found to be the most ridiculous or innacurate. Turn this into your sig block.
11) Post any final, insulting remarks here. This is an excellent time to bring up any instance in the past when the original griper's unit killed any one of your units. Exact dates, times and screenshots are unnecessary. Feel free to post any other K/D ratios here that the original poster may have missed. After all, this is why CRS introduced K/D ratios into the game. Feel free to deny any factual posted knowledge with what you "feel" the actual numbers should be. Factual knowledge is all relative anyway.
12) (OPTIONAL) This is an excellent time to try to change the topic of the thread. This process, commonly referred to as hi-jacking, usually provides just the type of added injury you might be looking for. At the very least, you will get an irritated response four to seven posts later. The new topic should however, somehow be able to be linked back to the original topci in some way. This way you can deny any such a hi-jacking and accuse the original poster of overreacting.
And that's it! Now you can post in the PS forums without fear! By simply following the outline listed above, you can "hang with the best of em"! Some final thoughts however. In the rare instances when you are proven utterly and compeltely wrong, appropriate response it required. We are all adults after all and it is important to act as such. Therefore, when out of arguments and options it is essential that you do one of the following.
a) Stop posting in the thread altogether. While some may call this "turning tail and running", think of it as simply regrouping. They can't hit what they can't see.
b) Change your argument. No one ever said that sticking to your guns was necessary ALL the time. Feel free to subtly or blatantly begin arguing a completely different line altogether. Accuse anyone who notices of being a Communist.
c) If you are one of THOSE type of people you could admit you were wrong and humbly bow out. While this is the honorable and mature thing to do, don't think for a second that it's going to win you any friends. Expect to take three or four more shots from victorious posters before the thread finally dies. And rest assured, your loss WILL go on your PS Fourms K/D ratio . . .

As Commander:
How would you deploy your forces?
How would you attack, what plan would you follow to achieve your objective?
What orders would you give the Armour and Infantry commanders, and how would you use your support assets?
How would you use your Air assets?
How would you secure your Bridgehead once you have crossed?
Woot. I've BEEN in this postion, but without the lavish amout of people provided here :)
The terrian favors the attacker. The Bridge is at the bottem of a steep hill with lots of forests on the west FB side.
AIr Assets are used for Recon, bombing of anything they see, and keeping the Luftwaffe from Aachan away. I don't expect much with 3 axis airfields 5 minutes or less flight time away.
Split the infantry up into 2 groups, 1 N of the road, 1 S. Armour hangs around the FB scatted under trees. AA guards FB from air attacks, placed in the grass near the road (about 100m S of the FB).
Infantry advances and the 2 pounder PUSH themselves along. ETA to the Briage is about 5 minutes for the inf, but it should only be about 5 minutes to the top of the ghll.
Once infantry and AT guns reach the crest of the hill, the armour moves from the FB to the same postion. Once all armour arrives and covers approches, the INFANTRY and AT guns then go down to the bridge. The Tillies move up and cross the bridge while the A13's mantain overwatch.
Matties first, and then the inf to the railway line. Once all across and in defensive postions along the RR line, move the A13's across. They and the Vickeis then head SE to the large hill overlocking SW masstruict and the road. They will flank and kill anything coming S of the road, or on the road, from masstrict. Anything coming N of the road will be easy kills for the Matties and 2 pounders.

Pizza Hut On-line...a good story
Pizza Hut On-line
For the first time in years I ordered Pizza.
1 hour or so later, no pizza. Called to find out whats happening to be told Manager will call back within 10 minutes.
5 minutes later, Manager calls to say it's leaving in 2 minutes, and it will be free. Something about only having 1 driver.
10 minutes later pizza arrives, free.
I called back and told them thanks.
Perhaps I went too far and pimped WW2OL too much

But both point and counterpoint are valid in that they show the fundamental challenge to licensed-based MMOGs: everyone can't be the hero, and sometimes that simply doesn't make for a very good game.
One of my and other people's problems with non PvP games is that it's possible for EVERYONE to be the hero. Save the princess, kill then dragon, and get the gold.
Like the other 100000 people in front of you already have.
Now, a non level PvP game...EVERYONE can be a hero, at the right time, place and luck. Level's make it harder, as it's hard to balance '20 1st levels can beat 1 20th level'. But that probably breaks the defination of a RPG game, dosn't it?"

Post subject: Verdun II - A WW2OL AAA video
Finally sat down and made a video from a AAA standpoint as a counter to all those cool pilot videos (like the ones from Gutted).
Need to get some real video editing software, as the conversion process appears to really wash out the color (like the brightness is too high), but it turned out ok I think.
File is 24mb, please right-click & save as - my host isn't fond of 'streaming' and I didn't put the file into a zip or rar as it really doesn't compress, so figured I'd save everyone the hassle of dealing with that.
Thanks to the Luftwaffe pilots that made this video possible, and for the fellows that towed my gun forward, saving me 30 minutes of pushing.
All of these captures were from the last few days down in the Verdun-Etain area. I'll work on increasing the quality of the entire process someday :)

The state of the games. Or My MMOG is a Jeep
Corpnews :: View topic - Planetside Re-Review
My feeling is they really needed to diversify and rotate their content... alll the bases where the same on ever continent... so in reality it was like playing the same map over and over... only the open field battles presented any kind of fun, new scenarios to blow people up in but they were too far and to few between....I mean, an FPS where the maps and weapons were always changing and evolving would never lose flavor for me. Planetside just can't seem to deliver that.
Well, how about a game with 400+ towns and cities, everyone different? And 1100 Forward Bases (all the same, I admit, but every piece of terrian is different).
But it took them 3 years to do that. Nobody has managered to get continuisly updated contest at the rate people seem to want it, except mabve EQ? And I well rembember complaining about EQ's rate the first year of release. But having a game live 5 years DOES mean they know how to crank out the expansions and content.
What's planetside's update scehedle? WW2OL has a 6 week...schedule (which often blows out to 4 months instead of 3). EQ seems to being out an expansion every 6 MONTHS, which over the long run it's been seems very hard to do for everyone else at that level.
Then again...
Here is my example: Battlefield 1942. Server BF#1 hosted by www.ecgnetwork.com. I get a 19 ping, FPS greater than 80+. the server is 64 players, and admin coverage by multiple admins during primetime.
....You have people happy to play a game that's had what, 1?2? updates in 2 years.
Monthly fee in the $7.50 or below region and I'd consider it.
You get what you pay for. Pay 7.50 it seems, and you don't get much. That won't make enough money for companies like EA, and it's not enough for a small dev house to survive on.
Mabye you want a small asian car with little safty, a tiny boot and glove box, no features like cruise control, but very cheap to run and very cheap to buy? Or would you prefer an american hummer? It seems to be the same economic realties....
Someone (Gbob?) ort to redo (or repost) that "If you're MMOG was a car" descirption.
Today was not a good day
Rejected for a Car Loan, AND THEY WON'T TELL ME WHY.
APperntly my credit history dosn't belong to me.
Shit. NOW I know why people make a fuss over this.
Well, I grew another day then today. Pity it was down and not up.
US plans huge show of force in Pacific
WWII Online :: View topic - US plans huge show of force in Pacific
man, seven carrier battlegroups, there isnt a military force in the world that could meet that head on in open battle.
that is what you'd really call "shock and awe" enough fire power to reduce a single small country to a smoking pile of rubble in a matter of hours.
lol the chinese wouldnt dare try something, they can be crazy but they arent stupid.
imagine being the chinese, firing on that force and you miss...you'd have the biggest "oh shat i just F$%#ed up" face ever for about 2 seconds before you're vaporized into a few millions tiny pieces.
Unlike the US Army, the US Navy is still avilable for any new tasks required.
Sounds like it's a remanider to China (or anyone else) not to try anything.
The problem is that if the DPRK decided to invade South Korea the US no longer has the GROUND force reserves to do much, only the Air Force and Navy (which are not small, and well capable of stopping anything).
But this leads onto another problem. I would presume the reason WHY you don't see all the US CV's afloat at any one time is due to maintaince problems. As the US army has learnt, if you have all you're divsions commited, people start getting tired.
What happens in 6 months time when half the CV's are in dock getting the maitaince fixed and THEN China crosses the Taiawn Straight?
'Corse by then, you'll have a new president ;p

Post subject: An Apology to the WWIIOL community
But mostly to the Allied community.
Ive posted some things in the past, that were uncalled for, vicious, cruel, and just plain out mean, unjust, and unfair.'
Im not going to try to make up an excuse, Im just going to say: I was completely and utterely wrong. I was wrong in what I said and how I said it.
Im not trying to 'gain favor'.
Im not trying to 'gain sympathy'.
Im just attempting to turn over a new leaf, and its going to be hard. Im a naturaly evil, and cruel human, that does not give a second thought to 'hurting someone's feelings'. Im attempting to see the good in people and in the world itself, and to react in a positive manner towards it.
Like I said. I apologize.
ps.....this has NOTHING to do with my scar with the Allied secure forums. That has been tkaen care of ...about 8 months ago. this is about the way Ive acted in the past couple months."
